CASABLOCCOMILANO

The concept is based on mass subtraction from a solid form (concept of excavation and cavity). Not following the idea of ​​a building conceived as assembling elements, experimentation starts from a progressive subtraction of matter from a definite form. The buildings around the project area show, on the one hand, extreme volumetric complexity (heights, variety in the prospectus, body distinction); On the other, the inner courts are simple spaces. The intention is to overthrow this concept: empty spaces (shorts) acquire the ability to generate built spaces. The design research is directed to a single block (one act) that aims to reach the complexity of a "city-palace": succession of shorts of different proportions, running spaces, compression and expansion of the vacuum, filter cavity between the interior and outside. "Vacuum is measured, shaped and prepared to become a suitable “scenario” for urban events." 1

The intention to resume the type of "courthouse" building arises from a morphological analysis of the Milanese fabric. The ideal is to reach the human density of a consolidated center: every empty space is delimited, connected by “traboulle”, open to the sky
